The Rhinoceros Hornbill.
(Buceros rhinoceros.)
There are some seventy species of Hornbill, and the majority of them are found in Africa, India and the Malay Peninsula and islands, where they are held in great veneration by the natives. The ³curious beaks² of this strange group of birds show a variety and extravagance of form found nowhere else in Nature. One of the most grotesque is the enormous hollow helmet worn by the Rhinoceros Hornbill, a native of the Malayan Peninsula, Sumatra and Borneo. The upturned point justifies the name, but the effect of the feature is further enhanced by the red colouring of the hind portion.
